Build systems that explain themselves

If it needs a person to interpret it, it isn't finished.

A good system makes its own state legible — through naming, structure, logs, and interfaces a new engineer can read without a guide. The goal is a system that answers its own questions.

This is also why the architecture here is explorable rather than described: the reasoning lives next to the thing it explains.
